Imran Khan forms committee for negotiations with government

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, has announced the formation of a negotiation committee to engage with the government. The committee comprises Asad Qaiser, Omar Ayub, Salman Akram Raja, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Hamid Raza.

The primary objective of the committee is to secure the release of detained PTI workers and address grievances stemming from recent political events. Omar Ayub, speaking at a press conference, shared that he had an in-depth discussion with Imran Khan during a visit to Adiala Jail on December 5. Khan directed PTI members to organize a prayer and Jirga session in Peshawar on December 13, inviting all political parties. Additionally, PTI’s international chapters will hold similar events on December 15 to demonstrate global solidarity.

Omar Ayub warned that failure to meet the party’s demands could lead to civil disobedience, a step that could have significant consequences for the nation. PTI has also called for a judicial inquiry into the events of May 9 and November 24, urging transparency and accountability.

Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser criticized the government for the alleged mistreatment of PTI workers, some of whom were presented in courts as terrorists. He emphasized that PTI remains committed to its constitutional rights and lawful struggle.

Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram accused the government of using oppressive tactics and suggested that civil disobedience could emerge as a public response to what he described as a government lacking popular mandate. He questioned the legitimacy of paying taxes to a regime perceived as undemocratic.

Amid ongoing political turmoil, legal proceedings against PTI leaders have intensified. On December 7, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Ali Amin Gandapur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, and several other senior PTI figures in connection with the GHQ attack case.
