Govt Decides to Convert FC Into Federal Force, Renames It as Federal Constabulary

The federal government has decided to restructure the Frontier Constabulary (FC) into a national-level law enforcement agency under the new name “Federal Constabulary,” sources confirmed. This move aims to enhance internal security operations and strengthen public order management across the country.
Under the new arrangement, the Federal Constabulary will be authorized to operate throughout all four provinces, as well as in Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. This expanded jurisdiction marks a significant shift from the FC’s previous regional mandate, positioning the force as a core pillar of national internal security.

As part of the reorganization, officers from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) will lead the force, ensuring professional oversight and integration with other national and provincial law enforcement bodies. Officials believe that the establishment of the Federal Constabulary will offer critical support during internal security challenges, counterterrorism operations, and the maintenance of public peace.
The Frontier Constabulary, originally a paramilitary force, has historically operated along provincial borders and in conflict-sensitive areas to assist local police forces. It has played a vital role in supporting civil administration, guarding key installations, and providing security during large-scale events. The transition into a federal force reflects the evolving security landscape and the government’s intention to deploy a more agile and unified response mechanism across Pakistan.
