Fazlur Rehman Criticizes Government for Endorsing Trump, Expresses Strong Support for Iran

  • Maulana Fazlur Rehman condemned the government’s support for nominating Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, calling it an insult to victims of U.S. military actions.
  • He reaffirmed strong support for Iran and criticized Trump’s aggression in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran.
  • Fazl warned against efforts to separate religion from politics and pledged to defend the role of religious seminaries in Pakistan.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has voiced strong opposition to the government’s reported endorsement of former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, describing the move as deeply offensive to the countless victims of U.S.-led military operations in the Muslim world.

Addressing the JUI-F Punjab General Council in Phagwari, Murree, Fazlur Rehman took aim at both current and past governments, accusing them of undermining religious seminaries. He stated that the religious institutions of Pakistan have historically been sidelined by those in power, yet JUI-F remains committed to defending their autonomy and role in society.

Fazl questioned the government’s logic behind supporting Trump, citing his controversial and violent legacy in the Muslim world. He referred to the suffering caused by Trump-era policies in Palestine, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and particularly criticized the former U.S. president’s hostility toward Iran. “Trump’s actions against Iran were not only unlawful but a clear breach of international norms,” he said. “Are we, as a Muslim nation, expected to abandon Iran and stand with Israel instead?”

Reaffirming unwavering solidarity with Iran, the JUI-F chief emphasized the importance of standing firm against global injustice, especially when directed at Muslim nations. He also issued a stern warning against attempts to detach religion from political discourse in Pakistan. Fazl declared that JUI-F continues to represent the voice of the people and will not allow any force to silence their stance on religious and national matters.
