Fawad Chaudhry calls for dialogue to prevent escalation amid rising political tensions

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has urged immediate dialogue to defuse Pakistan’s intensifying political crisis, warning that failure to address the situation could lead to widespread violence. In a public statement, Chaudhry criticized recent political rhetoric, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s speech, which he labeled as “foolish,” and condemned the Punjab government’s media campaign against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as “absurd.”

He cautioned that provocative language from both sides, including fiery speeches in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, risks pushing the country into dangerous conflict. “If the political temperature is not lowered, this crisis could escalate into a regular fight,” Chaudhry said, emphasizing the urgent need for constructive dialogue to stabilize the situation.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur responded strongly to federal government actions, particularly the threat of imposing Governor’s rule in the province. “If the federal government has the courage, it should show it,” Gandapur declared, asserting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would not be intimidated. “My people are not terrorists. We will not run from violence, but we will respond if forced.”

Gandapur emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to peaceful struggle for rights but warned against the use of force. “We will fight for our autonomy, and if the federal government tries to impose its will through violence, we will respond accordingly,” he said. Gandapur also referenced past tragedies, such as the clashes at D-Chowk, Anarkali, and Model Town, where lives were lost, asserting that the sacrifices of martyrs would not be in vain.
