EV charging stations to be installed at all petrol pumps in Islamabad

In a landmark step towards advancing electric mobility, the federal government has announced plans to install EV charging stations at every petrol pump in Islamabad. This decision was made during the fourth meeting on the Electric Vehicles (EV) Policy, chaired by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain.

The minister directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to ensure the swift setup of charging infrastructure across the capital, emphasizing its crucial role in making Islamabad a model city for electric vehicle adoption. He praised the progress already achieved and highlighted the importance of aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision for a sustainable and eco-friendly future.

The meeting also reviewed the construction of 40 charging stations along motorways and national highways, an initiative designed to support long-distance EV travel. Minister Hussain stressed the need for transparency in implementing the EV Policy, with plans to digitalize the entire process for better efficiency and accountability.

The government’s EV strategy goes beyond infrastructure. Plans include providing 39,000 electric bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws on concessional loans to encourage widespread adoption of eco-friendly transportation. In addition, free electric bikes will be awarded to the top 120 students of the Federal Board as part of efforts to promote sustainability and reward academic excellence.

To ensure transparency and efficiency, the entire process of implementing the EV Policy will be digitalized. An official announcement of the finalized policy is expected soon, marking a significant step in the government’s efforts to promote clean energy and modernize transportation.
