Punjab sets aside Rs 55bn for Film City, doubles financial aid for artists

The Punjab government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to boost the province’s arts and entertainment industry in its 2026-27 budget, earmarking Rs55 billion for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Film City and increasing financial support for artists by 100 percent.
According to 24NewsHD TV, the proposed Film City will be developed over 50 acres and equipped with modern facilities to cater to the growing needs of filmmakers and content creators.

The project will feature advanced film studios, sound stages, visual effects (VFX) facilities, post-production labs and other cutting-edge production infrastructure. Plans also include dedicated shooting locations, a central lake for large-scale productions and a convention centre for hosting international events, exhibitions and award ceremonies.
The Film City complex will additionally house a media trade centre, as well as specialised institutions for film and music education to nurture emerging talent and support industry development.
As part of the initiative, Pakistan’s first dedicated Film School will be established to offer professional training in filmmaking, television production and other creative fields.
In a landmark move, the provincial government has approved the Punjab Film City Authority Act, the first legislation of its kind in the province, aimed at providing an institutional framework for the growth and revival of the film and drama sector.
