Court denies Imran Khan bail in Jinnah House attack case

The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has rejected bail for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Jinnah House attack case. The seven-page written judgment by Judge Manzar Ali Gul concluded that Khan is culpable, emphasizing his significant influence over party members and supporters. The court noted that PTI leaders are unlikely to oppose his directives, further highlighting his role in the events.
The case stems from the violent protests on May 9, 2023, when PTI supporters staged demonstrations across the country following Khan’s arrest by paramilitary forces on the orders of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a corruption case. The protests escalated into attacks on military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House, known as Jinnah House, as well as vandalism of public properties and monuments dedicated to martyrs.

The court’s judgment revealed that the conspiracy behind the Jinnah House attack was allegedly planned at Khan’s Zaman Park residence. The prosecution presented evidence showing that the fire at Jinnah House caused significant damage, with law enforcement recovering petrol bombs and batons from 50 arrested suspects. However, many others involved in the violence remain at large.
The ATC rejected Khan’s bail applications, stating there were no grounds to justify granting him relief. The decision follows the dismissal of his bail pleas in seven other cases on November 27.
