Supreme Court Announces Summer Vacation Schedule 2026 To Improve Judicial Efficiency

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced its Summer Vacation Schedule for 2026, introducing a revised arrangement aimed at enhancing judicial performance, improving institutional efficiency and ensuring the faster disposal of pending cases across the country.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the apex court said the new schedule reflects its commitment to providing timely and effective justice while making optimal use of judicial resources during the summer recess.

According to the Supreme Court, the decision was taken following consultations among the judges and at the request of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Under the new arrangement, judges have voluntarily agreed to maximize their sitting periods at the Supreme Court’s principal seat in Islamabad during the vacation period.

The court stated that the initiative has been designed to maintain greater judicial availability throughout the summer months and facilitate the uninterrupted hearing of important cases, helping reduce delays in the justice system.

Traditionally, judges spend part of the vacation period hearing cases at branch registries located in different parts of the country. However, under the revised arrangement, judges have agreed to reduce, where applicable, the duration of sittings at branch registries and instead focus more on proceedings at the main seat of the Supreme Court.

The court believes this approach will improve coordination, streamline judicial operations and allow for more efficient case management during the vacation period.

Despite the adjustments in court sittings and scheduling, the Supreme Court clarified that the actual vacation period available to judges will remain unchanged. Judges will continue to avail four weeks of summer vacation, consistent with the practice followed in previous years. The new policy therefore does not reduce judges’ leave entitlement but instead reorganizes court operations to maximize productivity and judicial availability.

The Supreme Court emphasized that one of the primary objectives of the revised schedule is to accelerate the disposal of pending cases and improve access to justice for litigants. By increasing the availability of judges and optimizing court resources during the summer period, the apex court aims to hear and decide more cases without interruption.
