Shamoon Abbasi Questions Drama Based On ‘Pinky Aka Anmol’ Case

Pakistani actor and director Shamoon Abbasi has raised concerns over reports of a television drama based on the widely discussed Pinky, also known as Anmol, case.
In a post shared on social media, Shamoon questioned the decision to adapt a controversial criminal case into a television drama. He said Pakistan has many inspiring women whose stories of courage, struggle and achievement deserve to be highlighted on screen.

The actor also questioned whether a project centered on a controversial figure should be the focus of a prime-time television production.
Referring to the recently aired drama Case No. 9, Shamoon praised the show’s social relevance and said it successfully addressed important issues affecting women. He also appreciated the performances of Saba Qamar and Faysal Quraishi in the project.
Shamoon further suggested that if the story were to be explored, it would be more suitable as a feature film rather than a television serial. He noted that television dramas are widely watched by families and younger audiences, making the subject matter particularly sensitive.
He also expressed concern that portraying the alleged background and personal struggles of the central figure could create sympathy for someone linked to an ongoing criminal investigation. According to Shamoon, the case is still under scrutiny and many facts have yet to emerge publicly.
The reported drama is said to feature Saba Qamar in the lead role and is based on the life of Anmol alias Pinky, whose arrest in Karachi attracted widespread attention earlier this year.
