Maryam Nawaz dismisses cancer rumors, says undergoing parathyroid treatment

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday addressed and dismissed rumors regarding her health, specifically refuting claims that she has cancer. Speaking in London, CM Maryam clarified that she had undergone parathyroid surgery in Geneva last year, adding that only two countries in the world conduct this specialized treatment.

During her address, she emphasized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government’s consistent record of economic stability, asserting that prosperity has historically accompanied the leadership of her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

CM Maryam also outlined ongoing development projects in Punjab, including the construction of a state-of-the-art, 1,000-bed public hospital in Lahore. This facility, she noted, would be the first of its kind in the public sector. Additionally, she highlighted the government’s initiatives to deliver essential medications directly to patients’ homes and launched the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme, aimed at providing affordable housing across Punjab.

Emphasizing a commitment to transparency, she stated that all recruitment processes in Punjab are being conducted on a merit-based system.

In a pointed critique of political opponents, CM Maryam remarked that opposition parties, which she described as sources of unrest, are losing influence. She noted that recent calls for protests garnered little public support, with fewer than 500 participants attending. “Politics should not be about using foul language,” she concluded, underscoring her commitment to a dignified political discourse.
