An American woman has travelled thousands of kilometres to Pakistan to marry a man from Khewra after a friendship that began on social media developed into a three-year relationship.

Rosanna Marina, a US national, married Khewra resident Adil Shahzad after embracing Islam. Their unusual journey from an online introduction to marriage has attracted considerable attention among local residents as well as social media users.

According to Adil, the two first came into contact around three years ago after he added Rosanna on Facebook. Their initial conversations gradually developed into a friendship, and as they continued communicating, the relationship became closer.

Over the following three years, their friendship turned into love, eventually leading the couple to decide to marry.

Rosanna then travelled from the United States to Pakistan to join Adil. She maintained that she had come to Pakistan voluntarily and had not been pressured into making the journey or marrying him.

She also appeared before a court and recorded a statement confirming her consent to the marriage. According to the account, she made it clear that she wanted to marry Adil of her own free will.

Rosanna later reached Khewra, where the couple completed their marriage ceremony. Before marrying Adil, she embraced Islam after being influenced by Islamic teachings.

The couple’s marriage has generated particular interest because their relationship crossed geographical, cultural and age differences. What began through Facebook eventually brought Rosanna from the United States to Khewra to begin a new chapter of her life.

Reports about the couple, however, have provided conflicting information about their ages. One account identifies Rosanna as 58 and Adil as 34, while another gives their ages as 51 and 35, respectively.

Despite the differing age figures, the main details of their story remain consistent: the couple connected through social media about three years ago, developed a relationship over time and ultimately decided to marry.

Their story has since become a talking point in Khewra and on social media, where users have been discussing the circumstances surrounding the cross-border marriage.

Khewra, located in Jhelum district, has now become the setting for a relationship that began online and continued across continents before ending in marriage. Rosanna’s journey to Pakistan, conversion to Islam and marriage to Adil have turned the couple’s story into another widely discussed example of how social media connections can develop into relationships that cross national and cultural boundaries.
