Government Announces Public Holidays for Ashura on June 25-26

• Federal government has declared June 25 and 26, 2026, as public holidays for Ashura.
• Holidays will be observed by both five-day and six-day working week offices.
• Sindh government has also announced holidays on the same dates.
• Muharram 1448 AH began on June 14, 2026.
• Security and traffic arrangements have been strengthened nationwide for Muharram processions and gatherings.

The federal government has declared public holidays across Pakistan on June 25 and 26, 2026, in observance of Ashura, which falls on the 9th and 10th of Muharram 1448 AH.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the holidays for all public offices and institutions operating under both five-day and six-day working schedules.

The Sindh government has also announced public holidays on the same dates for the observance of Ashura.

Muharram-ul-Haram, the first month of the Islamic calendar and the beginning of the year 1448 AH, commenced on June 14, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.

Authorities across the country have finalized security and traffic management plans for Muharram processions and religious gatherings to ensure peaceful observance of Ashura. In Karachi, special arrangements have been made for vehicles participating in the main processions, with permits issued only to authorized organizations and services.
