Gas supply disrupted in Balochistan due to freezing temperatures

Gas supply across Balochistan has been severely disrupted due to freezing temperatures, which caused the Sui Southern Gas Company’s (SSGC) pipelines to freeze. The SSGC confirmed on Monday that the issue stemmed from icing on the controllers of an 18-inch diameter pipeline, reducing gas pressure to just 20 PSI instead of the normal 130 PSI.
The disruption has particularly impacted key areas, including Quetta, Nawa Killi, Pishin, Kuchlak, Bostan, and Ziarat, where residents are struggling to cope with reduced gas availability in the harsh winter conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted that the cold and dry weather will persist across most districts of Balochistan in the coming days. The freezing temperatures are also expected to affect other parts of the country. Islamabad and its surroundings are likely to remain cold and overcast, while Punjab will continue to experience cold and dry conditions.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, snowfall is predicted in the mountainous regions, while Sindh will see similar cold and dry weather. Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to face severe cold with cloudy conditions.
