West Indies Recall Alzarri Joseph, Name Squad For Sri Lanka ODI Series

  • West Indies have announced a 15-player squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Jamaica.
  • Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph returns after nearly a year on the sidelines due to a back injury.
  • The Caribbean side is targeting a fifth consecutive home ODI series victory.

West Indies have unveiled their 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, set to be played from June 3 to June 8 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

The series marks an important phase in West Indies’ journey towards securing automatic qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. With valuable ranking points at stake, the Caribbean side will be looking to make a strong start to the next stage of their campaign.

Shai Hope will continue to lead the side as captain, with the team aiming to extend its impressive record at home. West Indies have won their last four ODI series on home soil and will be seeking a fifth consecutive series triumph. Their most recent home ODI series victory came against Pakistan in August last year.

The squad features the return of experienced fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who has been out of action since July 2025 because of a back injury. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has also returned after missing the ODI series against New Zealand in November.

A notable inclusion is explosive batter Shimron Hetmyer, who has earned a recall following his strong performances in the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket West Indies views his return as part of its preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Hetmyer is expected to join the squad ahead of the third and final match of the series.

Head coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, highlighting the positive momentum generated by West Indies’ recent success at home. He believes the squad is well-equipped to take on a competitive Sri Lankan side.

The team arrived in Jamaica on May 31 after completing a 10-day training camp at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, where players focused on refining their skills and preparations for the series.
