Rabi Pirzada Urges Better Flood Management After Rainwater Enters Lahore Home

Singer and social activist Rabi Pirzada has appealed to the Punjab government to improve Lahore’s drainage system after heavy monsoon rainfall flooded her home and office, causing significant damage.
Speaking after the latest spell of rain, Pirzada said floodwater entered her house and office, damaging several computer systems, electrical equipment, furniture and stationery intended for children’s education. She estimated the financial loss to be between Rs700,000 and Rs2 million.

Addressing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz through a video message, Pirzada questioned why large public funds allocated for development and drainage projects were not producing visible results. She stressed that the purpose of her remarks was not to criticise the government but to highlight the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens during every monsoon season.
She said the problem extends far beyond her own home, noting that many low-income families have also been severely affected, with floodwater entering their houses and disrupting daily life. Pirzada added that her charitable foundation has been providing shelter, food and medicines to women and families impacted by the rains.
The singer said several areas of Lahore, including Garden Town, Liberty and Johar Town, experienced severe waterlogging, while roads remained submerged and vehicles struggled to move through flooded streets.
Pirzada also raised concerns about prolonged standing water, warning that it poses safety risks, particularly for children playing in flooded parks where electrical wiring may be present.
She called for stronger monitoring of drainage infrastructure, saying rainwater should be removed as it accumulates rather than remaining on roads and entering homes. According to Pirzada, authorities should adopt long-term solutions instead of dealing with the same problems every monsoon season.
Despite criticism following her public comments, Pirzada said she only wanted to draw attention to the issue and hoped the government would continue improving public services through better planning and accountability.
