Monsoon rains drench Karachi, widespread power outages reported

Much-awaited monsoon rains lashed Karachi on Friday, bringing heavy downpours to several parts of the city and triggering widespread power outages after around 100 K-Electric feeders tripped.
According to reports, the rain spell began in Gulshan-e-Maymar, Manghopir and Gulshan-e-Iqbal before spreading across the metropolis. Heavy rainfall was recorded in North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Nooriabad and the M-9 Kathore area.

Light to moderate rain was also reported in PECHS, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Nursery, Chanesar Goth, Saddar, M.A. Jinnah Road and Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the monsoon system entered Karachi from the Kirthar Mountains, bringing strong winds along with localized heavy rainfall.
The rainfall disrupted electricity supply across the city as nearly 100 K-Electric feeders tripped, leaving many neighbourhoods without power.
Power outages were reported in Korangi, Taiser Town, Landhi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jamshed Road and Guru Mandir.
Electricity supply was also suspended in Orangi Town, Mawach Goth, Manghopir, Baldia, North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Sohrab Goth, Scheme 33, Banaras and Nazimabad.
Besides feeder faults, incidents of snapped electricity cables and damaged pole-mounted transformers (PMTs) were also reported from different parts of the city as the rain continued.
