They asked her mother to wait outside: Emaan Khan recalls painful early career experience

Pakistani actress Emaan Khan has opened up about the emotional challenges her family faced during the early stages of her career, revealing that her mother was often asked to leave makeup rooms and wait outside while accompanying her daughters on set.

Speaking during her appearance on the comedy talk show Mazaaq Raat, hosted by Imran Ashraf, Emaan said that although she was never treated unfairly herself, seeing her mother being excluded deeply affected her.

“I believe the same respect that is given to me should also be given to my mother,” Emaan said.

According to the actress, whenever certain senior actresses were present, her mother was told to step outside because the makeup room was becoming too crowded.

“They would say, ‘Her mother is here, please ask her to sit outside. The girl is already here and there’s too much crowding.’ My mother would quietly sit outside for hours and never let me know what was happening,” she shared.

Emaan said her mother never complained or allowed her daughters to feel burdened by the situation, choosing instead to protect them from any distractions while they focused on their work.

Reflecting on those experiences, Emaan said they taught her an important lesson about dignity and respect within the entertainment industry.

During the show, Imran Ashraf jokingly asked whether those same actresses now treat her mother differently since Emaan has become a leading television star.

Laughing, Emaan replied, “Of course, they respect her now. And if they don’t, I’ll make sure they understand that this isn’t acceptable.”

Emaan’s mother, who was also present on the show, confirmed that such incidents happened on several occasions.

“Yes, it happened many times, but I never told my daughters because I didn’t want them to feel upset or distracted from their work,” she said. “When people asked why I was there, I would simply say that I was bored at home and wanted to visit.”

She added that her daughters only learned about her sacrifices years later.

“Today, those same actresses stand up to greet me and treat me with respect. But that respect didn’t come because of me—it came because my daughters earned it through their hard work and success,” she said.
