• Iqbal Hussain says society treats age-gap marriages differently depending on gender.
• The actor highlighted the criticism women often face for marrying younger men.
• His comments have sparked renewed debate on marriage, gender expectations and social judgment.

Veteran Pakistani actor Iqbal Hussain has ignited discussion on social media after criticizing what he described as society’s double standards regarding age-gap marriages, particularly when women marry younger men.

During a recent conversation, the actor shared his views on how public attitudes often differ depending on whether the older partner in a marriage is a man or a woman. According to Iqbal, older men who marry significantly younger women are usually congratulated and accepted by society, while women in similar situations frequently become targets of criticism and judgment.

Referring to his wife, renowned actress Bushra Ansari, Iqbal said that even respected and successful public figures are not immune to negative comments. He noted that constant scrutiny from society can create unnecessary emotional pressure regardless of a person’s achievements or status.

The actor questioned why personal decisions related to marriage and relationships continue to attract public criticism. He said many people feel entitled to comment on matters that do not directly concern them, turning private choices into topics of public debate.

Iqbal argued that women often face greater scrutiny than men in matters of marriage and relationships. In his view, society has become conditioned to accept age differences when the husband is older, but reacts negatively when a woman chooses a younger partner.

He added that this mindset remains deeply rooted in society and continues to shape perceptions about relationships. According to him, individuals should be free to make personal decisions without fear of judgment or social pressure.

Expressing concern over what he described as a growing culture of criticism, Iqbal said people are often quick to judge others instead of focusing on their own lives. He suggested that society would benefit from showing greater respect for personal choices and allowing individuals to live according to their own decisions.
