Azma Bukhari Warns Opposition of Strong Retort, Highlights Govt Achievements During Punjab Budget Session

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, addressing the Punjab Assembly during the ongoing budget session, issued a firm warning to the opposition, stating that any form of misconduct or rudeness would be met with an equally strong response. Her remarks came as part of her first opportunity in five years to speak on the provincial budget.

Bukhari used the occasion to outline key achievements and budgetary priorities of the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. She highlighted a substantial allocation of over Rs800 billion for the education sector, reflecting the government’s commitment to long-term human development.

She also praised the success of the “Clinic on Wheels” programme, which provided medical services to 9.2 million people within a single year. Further underscoring the government’s progress in healthcare, Bukhari cited the establishment of several new hospitals and health facilities across the province.

Acknowledging the reforms brought under CM Maryam Nawaz’s administration, Bukhari credited her for rooting out “mafia groups” that were drawing salaries without performing duties, and for implementing an inclusive, performance-based governance model.

The information minister emphasized that development projects are being carried out without political discrimination, even in constituencies represented by the opposition. She also noted that merit-based scholarship distribution is being ensured across the province.
