Arrest warrants issued for CM Gandapur, Shibli Faraz, and others in GHQ attack case

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for 25 absentees in the ongoing case concerning the May 9 attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ). The warrants include several prominent figures from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), highlighting the case’s high-profile nature.
Among those named in the arrest warrants are Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and former federal ministers Shibli Faraz and Kanwal Shauzab. Other PTI leaders implicated include Rashid Hafeez, Colonel Shabbir, Umar Tanveer Butt, and Shehryar Afridi. The warrants were issued after the accused failed to appear in court for the scheduled hearing.

Originally, the hearing was set to take place at Adiala Jail, but it was postponed due to the absence of ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, who was on leave. At an earlier hearing, charges were framed against 89 PTI leaders and workers, including the party’s founder. The court has now directed the Chief Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi to execute the arrest warrants and ensure the accused are presented in court. The case has been adjourned until December 13.
The GHQ attack case has drawn significant attention, as numerous PTI leaders have been implicated in the events of May 9.
Bushra Bibi’s Arrest Warrants Cancelled
In related developments, arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI’s founder, were cancelled after her appearance in court. She attended hearings for two separate cases: the £190 million reference and the Toshakhana 2 case.
During the proceedings held at Adiala Jail, Bushra Bibi submitted her responses to 79 court queries in the £190 million reference before Accountability Judge Nasir Javed Rana. In the Toshakhana 2 case, Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand deferred her indictment until December 12. Both Bushra Bibi and her husband Imran Khan submitted statements under Section-342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Imran Khan stated he would present witnesses in his defense, while Bushra Bibi indicated she would not call any witnesses.
