DG ISPR: Good Governance Is Key, No Talks With Terrorists
Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan’s issues cannot be resolved without good governance. He stated that decisions regarding the creation of new provinces should be made by the people and political leadership. Responding to Mohsin Naqvi’s recent remarks, he said those represented the interior minister’s personal opinion and declined further comment. He also reiterated that there is no room for negotiations with terrorists, saying they must surrender their weapons or face elimination.

Balochistan Coal Mine Explosion Traps Workers
A methane gas explosion at a coal mine in the Spin Karez area near Quetta left dozens of miners trapped underground. Authorities confirmed that several workers were rescued safely while rescue operations continue to locate the remaining miners. According to the mine owner, 42 workers were inside the mine when the explosion occurred.
The Balochistan government has sought a report into the incident and warned of action if negligence is proven. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the tragedy and directed authorities to continue rescue efforts until all miners are accounted for.
Broad Peak Rescue Mission Continues
Search and rescue operations are continuing after an avalanche struck climbers on Broad Peak. Four bodies have been recovered, while efforts are underway to locate the remaining missing mountaineers.
Pakistani climber Shehroze Kashif is leading local rescue efforts alongside an international team headed by renowned Nepali climbers. Authorities said helicopters and all available resources are being used in the operation.
Iran Claims Fresh Attacks on US Military Bases
Iran claimed it carried out fresh drone strikes on US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain, saying strategic facilities, aircraft hangars, satellite communication systems and fuel depots were targeted.
Iran also released satellite imagery claiming damage to American F-35 aircraft shelters, although the United States rejected reports that any fighter jets had been destroyed.
Separately, Iran denied involvement in drone attacks on two ships near Egypt, accusing Israel of conducting a false flag operation aimed at destabilising the region.
Gaza Peace Initiative Moves Forward
The Board of Peace announced progress on a proposed Gaza peace agreement under which Hamas would gradually disarm.
According to the proposal, Israeli forces would withdraw from Gaza after the process is completed, while an international stabilisation force and Palestinian police would oversee security. Hamas confirmed discussions but said its weapons would not be handed over to Israel or any non-Palestinian party.
Saudi Arabia Forms Maritime Security Alliance
Saudi Arabia announced the creation of a new maritime security alliance aimed at protecting international shipping routes.
Pakistan is among 14 participating countries supporting the initiative. Representatives from 43 countries, including members of the European Union, attended the meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia. The alliance will focus on maritime security in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Mohsin Naqvi Assures Business Community
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured traders and industrialists that the government is committed to improving security and resolving issues facing the business community.
During a meeting with delegations from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, he announced plans to visit Peshawar and Quetta soon to review the security situation firsthand.
Balochistan CM Rejects Militancy
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said those attempting to divide Pakistan would not succeed and urged militant groups to return peacefully.
Addressing a passing-out parade in Quetta, he said anyone willing to abandon violence would be welcomed, but those attempting to impose their views through force would be defeated. He expressed confidence that peace would soon return to Balochistan.
Heavy Monsoon Rains Lash Pakistan
Heavy rainfall continued across Rawalpindi, Islamabad and several other cities, causing urban flooding and disrupting daily life.
Water levels rose in Nullah Lai, prompting pre-alert measures, while a child reportedly drowned in a rain drain on Misrial Road. Authorities also reported heavy rain in Lahore, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Muzaffarabad and northern tourist areas, with cloudburst warnings issued for parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
AJK Election Campaign Ends Tonight
Campaigning for the second phase of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections will end at midnight ahead of polling scheduled for Sunday.
Voting will take place in Muzaffarabad Division and refugee constituencies, with major parties including PPP and PML-N contesting the elections.
AJK Election Commission Rejects Rigging Claims
Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said the Election Commission is an independent institution and does not work under anyone’s instructions.
He said losing candidates often blame rigging and urged political parties to respect the democratic process, adding that change can only come through the ballot box.

Maryam Nawaz Orders Action on Clean Drinking Water
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed officials to accelerate efforts to provide clean drinking water across the province.
Chairing a meeting of the Punjab Clean Water Authority, she ordered a comprehensive action plan, warning that negligence would not be tolerated. She also instructed authorities to speed up repairs and maintenance of water filtration plants.
