The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert across the country as strong monsoon rains are expected to strike various regions starting tonight and continuing into Monday, raising the threat of flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding.
The PMD stated that powerful monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, combined with a westerly wave, will impact the upper and central areas of the country. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, northeastern Punjab, the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, and parts of Balochistan.

The department warned that this intense rainfall could trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs, particularly in hilly terrains. There is also a high risk of landslides and mudslides that may block roads and disrupt transport in vulnerable areas such as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Urban centers are also expected to be affected, with the likelihood of flooding in low-lying parts of major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar. Additionally, strong windstorms accompanying the rain could damage trees, vehicles, solar panels, and power lines.
For today, the forecast indicates hot and humid weather across most regions, with isolated thunderstorms anticipated in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, and southern Punjab. By Monday, scattered showers, windstorms, and thunderstorms are expected to affect areas in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Authorities have urged residents, particularly in flood-prone and mountainous regions, to remain cautious, follow safety advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period to minimize risks.
