PM Shehbaz Meet Chaudhry Nisar, Signals Possible Political Reconciliation

In what is being viewed as a potentially significant development in Pakistan’s political landscape, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan at his residence, sparking speculation of a possible reconciliation.
Sources familiar with the meeting said key political matters were discussed during the conversation. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accompanied the Prime Minister, further underscoring the importance of the engagement.

This meeting marks a rare interaction between the two leaders, who have remained distant for several years. Their last known encounter occurred on September 7, 2024, when Prime Minister Shehbaz visited Nisar to offer condolences on the death of his sister.
Political analysts suggest the latest meeting may be part of a broader effort by the PML-N leadership to mend ties with Nisar, once a senior stalwart of the party. Nisar had been affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for over three decades before parting ways in 2018, citing a desire to uphold “respectable politics” and maintain his personal principles.
Following his exit from PML-N, Chaudhry Nisar contested the 2018 general elections as an independent candidate from four constituencies—two each for the National and Punjab assemblies. He managed to secure only one provincial assembly seat, maintaining a low political profile thereafter.
While no official statement has been released, the meeting has sparked renewed interest in Nisar’s political future and the possibility of his return to mainstream politics under the PML-N umbrella.
