PM Shehbaz Launches ‘Apna Meter, Apni Reading’ App to Ensure Transparency in Power Billing

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday inaugurated the “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” mobile application, a key technological reform aimed at improving transparency in Pakistan’s electricity billing system. The launch ceremony took place in Islamabad, where the Prime Minister described the initiative as a major step forward in empowering consumers and modernizing the power sector.
The newly launched app allows electricity consumers to submit their own meter readings, reducing reliance on manual meter inspections and minimizing billing discrepancies. Available in five regional languages, the app is designed to promote inclusivity, enhance inter-provincial coordination, and foster a greater sense of national unity.

“This application is a revolutionary reform that directly benefits the common consumer. It brings transparency and accountability to the billing process,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz, adding that the app should be rolled out nationwide—from Peshawar to Karachi—to ensure every household has access.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the application is part of a broader set of “revolutionary reforms” underway in the power sector. These include the restructuring of the Boards of Distribution Companies (DISCOs), the implementation of merit-based appointments, and strict measures against corruption networks within the electricity system.
Shehbaz Sharif commended Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari and the associated task force for their efforts in driving reforms. He noted that significant progress had also been made in renegotiating terms with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and investors to help bring down electricity prices.
The launch of the “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” app marks a shift toward digital governance in the power sector, with the aim of improving service delivery, reducing operational inefficiencies, and restoring public trust in utility billing.
The government has signaled that this is just the beginning of a broader transformation strategy focused on enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability across the country’s energy infrastructure.
