PM appoints Gen Aamer Raza as Commander National Strategic Command
- Gen Aamer Raza promoted to the rank of four-star general.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has promoted General Aamer Raza to the rank of four-star general and appointed him as the Commander of the newly established National Strategic Command.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, General Aamer Raza was previously serving as the Chief of the General Staff of the Pakistan Army. The prime minister congratulated him on both his promotion and new appointment, wishing him success in carrying out the important national responsibility.

The post of Commander National Strategic Command was created under the Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy (Amendment) Acts, 2025, which introduced a new command structure within the country’s armed forces.
Under the same legislation, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was appointed as Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, while the office of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) was abolished. General Shamshad Mirza was the last officer to hold the CJCSC position.
Under the new law, the prime minister is authorised to appoint the Commander of the National Strategic Command from among serving Pakistan Army generals on the recommendation of the Chief of the Army Staff-Chief of Defence Forces.
The legislation provides that the commander will serve a three-year term, making the role one of the country’s most significant military appointments under the restructured defence command system.
