Petrol Up by Rs8.36, Diesel by Rs10.39 as Govt Hikes Fuel Prices from July 1

The federal government has once again raised fuel prices, pushing petrol and diesel rates higher from July 1, in a move that adds to the mounting financial burden on consumers already grappling with inflation and recent gas tariff hikes.
According to a late-night notification issued by the Finance Division on Monday, petrol now costs Rs266.79 per litre after a hike of Rs8.36, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has risen by Rs10.39 to Rs272.98 per litre. The new prices took immediate effect and follow recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and relevant ministries.

This is the second petroleum price adjustment in less than a month. On June 15, the government had already raised petrol prices by Rs4.80 and diesel by Rs7.95 per litre. Fuel prices in Pakistan are reviewed fortnightly and are subject to fluctuations in global oil markets and foreign exchange rates.
The increase in petroleum prices coincides with a significant revision in domestic gas tariffs, also effective from July 1. OGRA has issued a separate notification detailing sharp increases of up to 50% for various consumer categories. Under the revised structure, household gas prices now range from Rs200 to Rs4,200 per MMBTU depending on consumption and category, with protected consumers facing lower rates. Fixed monthly charges have also been introduced, ranging from Rs600 to Rs3,000 for domestic users.
