Pakistan to import one million tonnes of wheat to stabilise domestic market

The federal government has approved the immediate import of one million tonnes of wheat to meet domestic demand, ensure uninterrupted supplies and stabilise the country’s wheat market.
According to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the imported wheat will help bridge supply requirements and maintain adequate availability across the country while supporting market stability.

The ministry said wheat stocks currently held by the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) will also be utilised to meet the requirements of the provinces, ensuring a continuous supply of wheat nationwide.
Officials said the combined use of imported wheat and existing government reserves is intended to strengthen the supply chain, prevent shortages and maintain stability in the domestic wheat market.
The Ministry of National Food Security and Research reiterated that the government remains committed to providing affordable and quality wheat to the public while taking necessary measures to protect the country’s food security and ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential commodities.
