Nawaz Sharif Commends PM Shehbaz and CM Maryam for Economic Progress and Future Diplomacy

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by his daughter and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, addressed the media outside Avenfield House in Mayfair, London, to discuss Pakistan’s political and economic outlook following their return from Geneva.

Nawaz Sharif shared his optimism about the future of Pakistan’s diplomatic relations, especially with the United States, following the re-election of Donald Trump. He emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive ties with neighboring countries, notably India, to strengthen regional stability. “Relations between Pakistan and the US have been favorable, and we aim to further improve them. Additionally, it’s crucial to uphold strong relations with our neighbors,” he said.

Touching on cricket diplomacy, Nawaz Sharif renewed his call for India’s participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan, believing it could help bridge diplomatic gaps between the two countries. “Cricket is a significant instrument for diplomacy, and India’s visit would positively impact our bilateral ties,” he remarked.

Nawaz Sharif praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy, citing improvements in economic indicators, a rise in foreign reserves, a positive stock exchange trajectory, and a gradual decrease in inflation and interest rates. “Shehbaz has shown commendable leadership in steering Pakistan’s economy towards stability,” he noted.

In addition to Shehbaz Sharif’s accomplishments, Nawaz acknowledged Maryam Nawaz’s contributions in Punjab, particularly her initiatives to reduce flour prices and implement welfare projects aimed at supporting the province’s population. Addressing the ongoing issue of smog in Punjab, Nawaz Sharif attributed the problem to past governance lapses, directing criticism at the previous PTI-led government and its ‘Billion Tree Tsunami’ project. “Where are the billion trees? Where are the promised jobs and dams?” he asked, accusing the PTI of failing to meet its pledges and fostering a “culture of hooliganism.”

Maryam Nawaz echoed her father’s sentiments, underscoring the challenges posed by smog and assuring the public that her administration is actively addressing the issue. “The smog situation is complex and has persisted for years, but we are committed to implementing effective measures,” she explained, suggesting that the PTI government had failed to take meaningful action on environmental issues.

Maryam also shared updates on her health, confirming a positive outcome from a recent check-up in Geneva, and hinted at a new initiative to launch a provincial airline to boost infrastructure and job opportunities in Punjab. On the economic front, she expressed optimism about Pakistan’s progress under the PML-N’s leadership, despite the challenges inherited from the previous administration. “Under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, we laid a foundation for economic recovery. Now, with Shehbaz and myself at the helm, we are witnessing measurable progress, and I am confident that we will soon overcome our challenges,” she said.
