Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that Pakistan’s biggest economic challenge is not a lack of awareness, but a lack of action, warning that the country cannot continue relying on loans without implementing meaningful reforms.
Speaking at the Pakistan Economic Summit, Naqvi said the federal government prepares its annual budget with a deficit from the very beginning, and the main discussion each year revolves around how much more debt the country will need to take on.

He said everyone, including the government, opposition and all political parties, understands the country’s financial problems. However, despite this shared understanding, no one has taken the necessary steps to address the root causes of the crisis.
Naqvi questioned why Pakistan continues to increase its borrowing instead of fixing the system. He said if those responsible do not introduce reforms, the country’s debt will keep rising year after year.
The interior minister added that no matter how hard the prime minister works, even if he puts in 14 to 16 hours a day, the country’s economic problems cannot be solved unless the existing system is fundamentally reset.
He stressed that Pakistan needs structural economic reforms instead of continued dependence on loans, saying lasting improvement will only come when the system itself is changed rather than relying on more borrowing every year.
