Major martyred, 13 terrorists eliminated in KP operations: ISPR

A major was martyred, and 13 terrorists were neutralized in three separate military operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operations, aimed at curbing terrorism in the region, were carried out on Wednesday and Thursday.

In North Waziristan, Major Muhammad Awais, a 31-year-old resident of Narowal district, embraced martyrdom during an intense exchange of fire with terrorists. Five militants, identified as members of the Khwarij group, were killed, and eight others sustained injuries during the operation. The ISPR highlighted the sacrifices of brave soldiers, emphasizing their role in strengthening Pakistan’s resolve to eradicate terrorism.

In an intelligence-based operation in the general area of Jani Khel, Bannu district, security forces eliminated two terrorists. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terror networks in the region.

A third encounter took place in the South Waziristan district, where security forces killed six terrorists and injured eight others. Following the clash, sanitization operations were launched to clear the area of any remaining militants.

“Sanitization operations are being carried out to eliminate any other Khwarij found in the area, as security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism,” the ISPR stated. The military reiterated its commitment to securing peace and stability in the region, despite the sacrifices required.

Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence of militant violence in its western border regions, particularly since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021. The rise in militant activity has led to increased casualties among civilians and security personnel.

Last year, over 1,500 people, including civilians, security forces, and militants, lost their lives to violence, marking the highest toll in six years, as per data from the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies.
