Lahore Submerged After Heavy Rain, Roads Flooded and Daily Life Disrupted

Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across Lahore, leaving major roads submerged, disrupting traffic and bringing normal life to a halt in several parts of the city.
From Shahdara to the Walled City and Gulberg, roads were inundated with rainwater, making travel difficult for commuters. Markets in some areas remained closed for hours as floodwater accumulated, while long traffic jams added to the difficulties faced by residents.

The historic Anarkali area was among the worst affected. Although the rain stopped, businesses were unable to reopen for several hours as authorities struggled to drain the accumulated water.
Even upscale neighbourhoods were not spared. Residents and pedestrians were forced to wade through waterlogged streets, while many questioned the effectiveness of the city’s drainage system and rain management measures.
Gulberg also experienced severe flooding, with roads remaining underwater for hours. Despite official claims of emergency response efforts, many residents reported that drainage teams were not visible in affected areas.
At Hamdard Chowk, standing water covered the roads, causing motorcycles and rickshaws to stall. Drivers struggled to move through flooded streets, while many commuters were left searching for alternative routes.
Hall Road and surrounding roads leading toward Hafeez Center, MM Alam Road and Gulberg Main Boulevard were also submerged after the downpour, severely affecting traffic movement throughout the morning.
Several low-lying areas, including Mozang and nearby localities, witnessed water levels rising by several feet. Roads resembled ponds, leaving daily life completely disrupted and making it difficult for residents to reach workplaces and businesses.
The situation was further worsened by prolonged electricity outages in several parts of Lahore, with many neighbourhoods still without power hours after the rainfall ended. Residents urged authorities to improve drainage infrastructure and emergency response to prevent similar disruptions during the ongoing monsoon season.
