Flour prices hit new high as 20kg bag climbs to Rs2,900 across Pakistan

Flour prices have surged once again across Pakistan, with the cost of a 20-kilogram bag reaching a record high of Rs2,900 in some parts of the country, adding to the financial burden on millions of households.

According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Karachi recorded the highest flour price, where a 20kg bag is being sold for up to Rs2,900. The previous highest recorded price was Rs2,800, indicating another significant increase in the cost of the country’s staple food item.

The data further shows that the maximum price of a 20kg flour bag has reached Rs2,800 in Islamabad, Quetta and Khuzdar, while consumers in Peshawar are paying up to Rs2,750. In Rawalpindi, the same bag costs as much as Rs2,747, followed by Hyderabad at Rs2,740 and Bannu at Rs2,700.

In Sindh, the flour bag is priced at Rs2,560 in Sukkur and Rs2,500 in Larkana. Meanwhile, prices remain comparatively lower in several Punjab cities, with the 20kg bag selling for Rs2,420 in Multan, Rs2,400 in Gujranwala and Bahawalpur, Rs2,333 in Sialkot, Rs2,300 in Faisalabad, Rs2,250 in Lahore and Rs2,240 in Sargodha.

The continued increase in flour prices has further squeezed household budgets, particularly for low- and middle-income families already struggling with rising electricity, gas and fuel costs.
