Bilawal Bhutto Promises Jobs, Greater Rights And Development For Gilgit-Baltistan

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his party’s commitment to securing greater rights and development opportunities for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, promising employment for youth and accelerated progress in the region after June 7.
Addressing a public gathering in Gilgit as part of the election campaign, Bilawal said the PPP had been fighting for the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for three generations. He stated that the party remained committed to ensuring the region receives its rightful share of governance and development.

Bilawal described Gilgit-Baltistan as a region blessed with abundant natural resources and said the PPP would focus on creating employment opportunities for young people. He assured supporters that merit-based jobs and development initiatives would be among the party’s priorities.
Recalling his previous election campaign in the region, Bilawal said the PPP had presented its manifesto in every constituency and received significant public support. He alleged that the party’s mandate had been taken away in the last election and urged voters to protect their vote and ensure transparency in the electoral process this time.

He noted that he had returned to Gilgit-Baltistan alongside Aseefa Bhutto Zardari to seek public support and strengthen the party’s position ahead of the elections.
The PPP chairman also spoke about regional and international challenges facing the Muslim world, including the situations in Iran, Lebanon and Gaza. He called on voters to consider which political party was best positioned to address the country’s current challenges and safeguard national interests.
Bilawal credited the Bhutto family with major contributions to Pakistan’s national security. He said PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, while former prime minister Benazir Bhutto played a role in advancing missile technology. He also praised former president Asif Ali Zardari for decisions related to foreign policy and regional initiatives.
Highlighting the constitutional framework, Bilawal said the PPP would work through the 18th Constitutional Amendment to secure greater rights and empowerment for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
He further stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in driving economic growth and development projects in the region. Referring to the area’s hydropower resources, Bilawal claimed Gilgit-Baltistan has the potential to generate up to 50,000 megawatts of electricity and described the region as a hidden economic treasure for Pakistan.
Concluding his address, he pledged renewed development efforts, improved opportunities for young people and continued struggle for the rights of Gilgit-Baltistan under a future PPP-led agenda.
