US President Trump May Visit Pakistan in September During India Summit Tour

Former US President Donald Trump is expected to visit Pakistan in September as part of his upcoming tour of South Asia, according to diplomatic sources. While the visit has not been officially confirmed by either country, sources suggest that Trump may stop in Pakistan while attending the Quad leaders’ summit scheduled in India that month.
As part of recent diplomatic engagements, Trump met with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the White House in a rare one-on-one meeting held in the Cabinet Room. Following the meeting, Trump hosted a luncheon in Munir’s honor, which the White House described as a gesture of appreciation for Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Trump acknowledged Pakistan’s strategic role in the region, particularly in relation to Iran and India. He noted, “We spoke about the Iran-Israel issue. Pakistan understands Iran better than us — they’re a key player in regional peace.”
Trump also highlighted General Munir’s efforts in easing recent tensions between Pakistan and India, saying, “It’s an honour to meet Field Marshal Asim Munir. I thanked him for not letting things spiral into war.” The cross-border tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors were reportedly resolved through diplomatic backchannels, with Munir playing a key part.
The meeting also covered potential economic cooperation, including a possible trade agreement involving both Pakistan and India. Trump confirmed that early discussions are underway and emphasized that Pakistan’s trade concerns are being considered.
General Munir is also scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pat Hegseth in the coming days, further strengthening the impression that US-Pakistan strategic dialogue may be regaining momentum after a period of limited interaction.
Trump, when asked about the broader implications of these meetings, praised General Munir’s leadership and diplomatic role, stating, “General Asim has played a strong role in lowering Pak-India tensions. We appreciate his leadership.”
Donald Trump’s last official visit to South Asia took place in February 2020, when he visited India during his tenure as President. The two-day trip included a massive public reception titled “Namaste Trump” at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, which was attended by over 100,000 people. He also visited the Sabarmati Ashram and later traveled to Agra with First Lady Melania Trump to tour the Taj Mahal, before holding official talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
During the visit, Trump and Modi discussed defense cooperation, trade, and regional security. The trip concluded with the signing of defense deals worth over $3 billion, including the sale of Apache and MH-60R helicopters to India. Notably, Trump did not visit Pakistan during this trip, though he had previously expressed interest in playing a mediating role in the Kashmir issue between Pakistan and India.
