Riyal Strengthens to Rs 78.13 Against Rupee on July 16, 2025

On July 16, 2025, the Qatari Riyal (QAR) appreciated slightly against the Pakistani Rupee (PKR), with the open-market rate reaching Rs 78.13—up by approximately Rs 0.05 (+0.06%) from the previous day. The interbank rate stood marginally lower at Rs 78.09, showing only a minor daily change.

This slight upward movement continues the trend observed over the past week, where the QAR/PKR rate has remained relatively stable, fluctuating between Rs 77.67 and Rs 78.39. The market appears to be adjusting in response to external economic signals, especially with the Riyal’s peg to the US dollar.

Analysts suggest that the sustained strength of the US dollar, combined with Pakistan’s ongoing foreign exchange and balance-of-payments challenges, has maintained upward pressure on Gulf currencies including the Qatari Riyal. With no significant intervention from the State Bank and a steady demand for foreign currencies, the PKR remains vulnerable.

Looking ahead, the Riyal could approach or even cross Rs 79 if current trends persist. However, a rise in remittance inflows—particularly during the Eid holiday season—could provide some temporary relief and support for the rupee.

Expert View
According to a Karachi-based currency analyst, unless there is a notable increase in remittances from Qatar or direct central bank intervention, the Riyal is likely to continue its gradual rise. Importers and families receiving funds in Riyal should prepare for potentially higher conversion costs in the coming weeks.
