Putin and Xi Condemn Israeli Strikes, Call for Urgent De-escalation in Middle East

In a rare coordinated stance, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strikes on Iran during a phone call on Thursday, according to official statements from both nations. The two leaders called for immediate de-escalation and emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions to regional conflicts.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that both leaders agreed Israel’s actions constituted violations of the United Nations Charter and international law. “Moscow and Beijing fundamentally believe there is no military solution to the current crisis, particularly with regard to Iran’s nuclear programme,” Ushakov stated.

During the conversation, President Xi urged an intensified push for diplomacy to prevent further escalation. According to Chinese state media outlet Xinhua, Xi noted that “major countries” with significant influence in the Middle East should take greater responsibility in promoting dialogue and easing tensions — a statement widely interpreted as a veiled reference to the United States.

The phone call between the two leaders comes amid growing international concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, following a sharp escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran. The discussion marks a renewed show of unity between Moscow and Beijing on global security matters, especially in regions where both have growing strategic interests.
