Punjab Imposes Section 144, Bans Pillion Riding and Firearms During Muharram

The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 across the province from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram in a bid to maintain law and order during the sacred Islamic month. The decision aims to ensure the safety of mourners and prevent any potential unrest during religious processions and gatherings.

According to a spokesperson for the provincial Home Department, a complete ban on pillion riding will be implemented on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. However, exemptions will be granted to women and elderly citizens.

The government has also prohibited the public display and possession of firearms and explosives during this period. Strict action will be taken against any violations.

In addition, the use of provocative slogans, hate speech, or any statements that could incite violence or sectarian tensions has been banned under the same section. These measures, officials stated, are part of a comprehensive strategy to uphold public peace and facilitate secure observance of Muharram rituals across the province.
