Mohammed Siraj Replaces Harshit Rana in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Squad After Injury Setback

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been drafted into India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after Harshit Rana was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury sustained during a warm-up match against South Africa.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed the development in an official statement, saying that Harshit Rana picked up the injury during the warm-up fixture held in Navi Mumbai on February 4, 2026. Following medical consultations and scans, the BCCI medical team declared the 24-year-old pacer unfit to take part in the World Cup. The team management wished Rana a speedy recovery and announced that Mohammed Siraj would join the squad as his replacement.

Rana had a limited outing in the warm-up game, bowling just one over in which he conceded 16 runs before taking no further part in the match. He also batted briefly, facing only a single delivery. His injury has added to India’s concerns ahead of the tournament, especially with spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar also facing fitness doubts.

The Delhi pacer has played nine T20 internationals for India so far, scoring 57 runs at an average of 28.5, with a highest score of 35. With the ball, he has taken nine wickets at an average of 33.0, registering best figures of 3 for 33.

Siraj, who has been a regular feature in India’s Test side, last represented India in a T20 international against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in July 2024. In his T20I career, he has claimed 14 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 32.28, maintaining an economy rate of 7.79, with best bowling figures of 4 for 17.

India’s updated squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 now includes Suryakumar Yadav as captain, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel as vice-captain, Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Washington Sundar, and Mohammed Siraj.
