Maryam Nawaz Visits Flood-Affected Nankana Sahib, Announces Relief and Rehabilitation Measures

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday visited flood-affected areas of Nankana Sahib to assess the damage caused by recent torrential rains and review ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations.
During the visit, the chief minister toured inundated areas, inspected rescue and relief activities, and met residents who shared their concerns about losses to property, crops, and livestock. She assured affected families that the provincial government would deliver compensation on an emergency basis and prioritize rehabilitation of the damaged areas.

Maryam Nawaz announced financial assistance for farmers whose crops and livestock were destroyed, along with aid for families whose mud houses collapsed due to flooding. She also directed immediate release of funds for a beautification plan for the city, aimed at restoring public spaces and infrastructure once floodwaters recede.
Additional initiatives announced during the visit include the expansion of electric bus services in Nankana Sahib to enhance public transport facilities, particularly for residents in flood-affected areas. The chief minister also directed an increase in the number of “Clinics on Wheels,” mobile health units that will deliver medical services to remote and inundated villages. Furthermore, the Himmat Card program, which provides financial support to vulnerable households, will be extended to cover a larger segment of the district’s population, ensuring more families benefit from the welfare scheme in the wake of the disaster.
Officials briefed the chief minister that flooding caused by overflowing streams and canals had submerged 1,525 acres of farmland and impacted 22 villages in the district. Relief operations continue to focus on drainage, distribution of rations, and medical assistance for displaced residents.
