LHC Grants Bail to PTI Activist Sanam Javed in Anti-State Content Case

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed in a case related to the alleged dissemination of anti-state content on social media. Justice Farooq Haider approved the bail petition and ordered her release upon submission of surety bonds worth Rs500,000.

Javed was arrested earlier this month by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Lahore under charges filed in accordance with the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code. The FIA alleged that the content she uploaded posed a threat to national interests and qualified as anti-state propaganda.

During the hearing, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, representing Javed, argued that the accusations lacked merit and were politically motivated. He maintained that there was no evidence linking his client to any statements or posts that could be construed as anti-state, and urged the court to consider the absence of incriminating material.

The FIA opposed the bail, contending that the case involved serious allegations that required further investigation. The agency insisted that the uploaded content met the legal criteria for anti-state activity.

After hearing arguments from both parties, the court accepted the plea and directed that Sanam Javed be released from custody.

Sanam Javed, a prominent PTI supporter, has faced several legal cases in recent months, especially in the aftermath of the May 9 riots last year, which led to intensified scrutiny and arrests of party activists across the country. Her legal team continues to challenge what they describe as politically motivated actions against her.
