Ghazala Javed

Ghazala JavedGhazala Javed (January 1, 1990 – June 18, 2012) was a Pukhtu singer from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Career

She had started dancing at the age of sixteen. Soon after starting her career as a dancer she started singing and became very famous. She was the leader of a resurgence of female Pashto language singers in the province after a period of Taliban intimidation. She had received Khyber Award in 2011.

She started early singing in 2004 and became a popular pashto singer. She had a sweet and clear voice. Her popularity graph sky-rocketed when she sang with Rahim Shah the popular songs including “Za sta yama Janana” and “Ta khukoli qudrati yaw gul da fasarli” in 2010.

Personal life

Javed was married to Jehangir Khan in 2009, a native of Peshawar, but of late was living with her father due to differences with her husband.

Death

Ghazala was shot dead along with her father in a drive-by shooting by gunmen on a motorcycle. Police confirmed that the singer’s ex-husband is a suspect in the case, and that the Taliban are not believed to have been involved. Ghazala Javed with her sister and father just getting out of beauty parlour in Dabgari Garden when unknown gunmen opened fire on them. She was hit with six bullets and pronounced dead along with her father at a hospital in Peshawar. Her sister Farhat Javed accused her husband for the killing. On 19 June 2012, she and her father buried in their native Swat. Thousand of people participated in her funeral procession.
