Dollar to PKR – July 19, 2025: PKR Weakens Slightly Against USD and CAD, Recovers Against AUD
The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) displayed a mixed trend in the currency market on July 19, 2025, as it slightly weakened against the US Dollar (USD) and Canadian Dollar (CAD), while gaining marginal ground against the Australian Dollar (AUD). These fluctuations reflect ongoing external pressures and adjustments in global commodity and financial markets.

The US Dollar witnessed a slight uptick, trading at Rs. 288.65 in the open market, compared to the previous day’s Rs. 288.20. On the interbank side, it remained relatively stable near Rs. 284.93. This minor rise is being attributed to steady demand from importers and oil payments, alongside persistent concerns about Pakistan’s foreign reserves.

The Canadian Dollar also appreciated modestly, selling for Rs. 212.80, up from Rs. 211.95 a day earlier. The increase aligns with strength in global crude oil prices and CAD’s performance against the greenback internationally.
Contrary to the other two, the Australian Dollar slipped slightly, now available at Rs. 193.20 in the local market, down from Rs. 193.75. Traders link this drop to weaker-than-expected employment data from Australia and a stronger PKR performance amid lower import volumes from the Oceania region.
Currency analysts suggest that the PKR may continue to face pressure in the short term due to repayments of external debts and limited foreign inflows. However, recent stability in the IMF programme and expected release of funds in August could provide a cushion to the local currency. A senior forex dealer in Karachi mentioned, “We expect the rupee to remain range-bound between 283 and 289 against the USD in the coming days unless there is a major policy announcement.”
The market will continue to monitor developments in Pakistan’s financial commitments and geopolitical climate, as these factors play a critical role in shaping future currency movements.
