Dollar Rises Above 281 While CAD and AUD Stay Steady – July 17, 2025

On July 17, 2025, the Pakistani rupee witnessed limited movement against key foreign currencies, with the US dollar climbing above 281 PKR, while the Canadian and Australian dollars held steady near recent averages. Currency analysts suggest the rupee could face mild pressure in the coming days if global trends persist, though a stable remittance inflow may help cushion volatility.

The US dollar traded near 281 PKR, reflecting a slight gain from earlier in the week. The greenback has maintained strength due to continued global demand and the prevailing interest rate gap between the US and Pakistan. Currency experts believe that unless Pakistan sees a significant boost in forex reserves or external inflows, the rupee may remain under mild pressure. However, they also note that any signs of economic stability or IMF support could limit depreciation in the coming weeks.

The Canadian dollar hovered around 207 to 208 PKR, showing a stable trend over the past few sessions. There were no sharp fluctuations, indicating that oil price steadiness and balanced North American trade are providing support to CAD. Experts believe CAD is likely to stay within this band unless there are sudden shifts in commodity markets or Canadian economic policy.

The Australian dollar traded near 186 PKR, slightly down from recent highs. The softening was attributed to regional cues, including weaker Chinese demand which often impacts the AUD due to strong trade ties. Analysts expect the AUD to remain range-bound unless there are strong signals from Asian economies or notable changes in global commodity demand.

Traders are advised to keep a close eye on global economic data and local forex developments. While the US dollar may retain some upward momentum, both CAD and AUD are expected to remain largely stable unless major global shifts occur.
