COAS Munir, President Trump Hold Talks on Middle East Crisis and Regional Security

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held a high-level meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House on Thursday, where both sides discussed the escalating Israel-Iran conflict and wider regional security dynamics.

The luncheon meeting, held in the Cabinet Room and followed by a visit to the Oval Office, was attended by top U.S. officials including Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs Steve Witkoff. Field Marshal Munir was accompanied by Pakistan’s National Security Advisor.

According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions focused in detail on the ongoing air war between Iran and Israel, a conflict now in its second week and marked by intense missile exchanges and deepening humanitarian concerns.

Field Marshal Munir conveyed the gratitude of the Pakistani government and its people for President Trump’s “constructive and result-oriented role” in helping de-escalate tensions during the recent Pakistan-India standoff. He praised the U.S. president’s diplomatic leadership and ability to navigate complex international crises.

The meeting underscored the growing strategic engagement between Islamabad and Washington, particularly in areas concerning regional stability, counter-terrorism, and conflict resolution. The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to fostering peace through diplomatic means.

The development comes amid renewed emphasis on Pakistan’s role in international diplomacy. Earlier this week, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had described the country’s evolving diplomatic approach as “hybrid diplomacy”—a blend of military engagement, strategic clarity, and backchannel dialogue. He said this strategy had already yielded tangible outcomes, including Pakistan’s balanced positioning in the Israel-Iran crisis and improved ties with global powers.
