Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has praised Pakistan’s Babar Azam as “the greatest player of this decade” following his high-profile signing with the Sydney Sixers for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season 15. Speaking to media outlets, Finch described Babar as the most prominent name among Pakistani cricketers and lauded his inclusion in the BBL as a major milestone for the league.
“There’s no bigger name than Babar Azam among Pakistani players in the BBL draft,” said Finch. “He is currently the best player in world cricket and arguably the greatest of this decade. Australian fans are in for a treat.”

The Sydney Sixers officially confirmed Babar’s signing last week, utilizing the BBL provision that allows teams to pre-sign one overseas player ahead of the draft, which is set for June 19. This will be Babar’s debut season in the BBL, and his acquisition is being touted as one of the most valuable in the tournament’s history.
Babar was reportedly signed under the Platinum category through a pre-draft agreement valued at approximately PKR 10 crore, well above the base price of PKR 7.75 crore, making him one of the highest-paid international players in the league. His arrival is expected to draw significant interest from global cricket fans, particularly from South Asia.
Finch also commended fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, calling him a “match-winner” and one of the most exciting prospects in the BBL draft pool. “Every team would want to have Shaheen. He’s capable of turning matches with his bowling,” Finch added.
This year’s BBL will also feature a strong Pakistani contingent beyond Babar and Shaheen. Haris Rauf returns with Melbourne Stars, Mohammad Rizwan and Hassan Khan are set to don the Melbourne Renegades jersey, Shadab Khan will represent Sydney Thunder, and Hasan Ali joins the Adelaide Strikers—marking the largest-ever Pakistani presence in a single BBL season.
