5,000 Punjab Police Personnel Deployed In Gilgit-Baltistan For Election Security

• Punjab Police has sent 5,000 personnel, including women officers, for election security duties in Gilgit-Baltistan.
• Section 144 has been imposed in Diamer district to maintain law and order during polling.
• More than 7,500 election officials have been deployed across 24 constituencies.

Ahead of the Gilgit-Baltistan General Assembly Elections 2026 being held today (Sunday), Punjab Police has deployed 5,000 personnel, including male and female officers, to assist in maintaining security across the region.

According to official sources, the contingent reached Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday and immediately assumed election security responsibilities at various locations. The deployment is part of extensive security arrangements aimed at ensuring peaceful and transparent polling throughout the region.

The personnel include 1,500 officers from the Rapid Mounted Police (RMP) wing of Punjab Police and 1,242 members of the Punjab Constabulary. In addition, 1,958 female personnel from the Punjab Highway Patrol Wing and 300 women officers from Lahore Police have also been dispatched to support election duties.

The movement of personnel was carried out under the directions of the Punjab Inspector General of Police, while the SSP Motor Transport Punjab arranged transportation and logistical support for the deployment.

Meanwhile, authorities have imposed Section 144 in Diamer district as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order during the election process. Diamer is considered one of the most sensitive districts from a security perspective.

Election preparations across Gilgit-Baltistan have been completed, with thousands of officials assigned to conduct polling in 24 constituencies. Officials said around 7,500 officers and staff members have been deployed to perform election-related duties and ensure the smooth conduct of voting.

The additional deployment from Punjab comes as security forces remain on high alert across Gilgit-Baltistan to safeguard polling stations and facilitate a peaceful electoral process.
