Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has signaled his intent to leave a major mark on the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2025, expressing a keen desire to take on some of the game’s biggest names. Speaking during a podcast hosted by former Australian captain Aaron Finch, Afridi shared his ambitions and excitement ahead of his BBL campaign with Brisbane Heat.
The fiery left-arm fast bowler, known for his early breakthroughs and toe-crushing yorkers, named David Warner, Steve Smith, and fellow Pakistani teammate Babar Azam as his top targets. “I want to dismiss the best — that’s where the challenge lies. I’m working hard to ensure I’m ready for it,” he said.

I’ve always admired the pace and bounce there. The energy from the crowd adds even more fuel to my bowling,” he noted.
Reflecting on past cricketing moments, Afridi recalled Mitchell Johnson’s devastating spell at The Gabba as a key source of inspiration. “Watching Johnson bowl there was unforgettable. To now have a chance to perform on the same pitch is truly a dream come true,” he added.
Afridi, who has already made a name for himself with match-winning performances across formats, sees the BBL not just as another league but a learning opportunity. “Australian pitches are fast and challenging — perfect for a bowler like me. It’s a platform to test myself and to grow.”
He also praised David Warner as a “legend of the game,” noting that taking his wicket would be a career-defining moment. “Warner commands respect across the cricketing world. Dismissing a player of his caliber is always memorable.”
