Richard Ngarava Becomes Zimbabwe’s Leading T20I Wicket-Taker, Surpasses Sikandar Raza

Richard Ngarava etched his name in Zimbabwe’s cricketing history on Monday by becoming the country’s highest wicket-taker in T20 Internationals. The milestone came during Zimbabwe’s opening match of the tri-nation series against South Africa at Harare Sports Club.
The left-arm pacer delivered a spirited four-over spell, claiming three wickets while conceding 35 runs. He dismissed Lhuan-dre Pretorious for a first-ball duck, removed Reeza Hendricks for 11, and later sent back Rubin Hermann after a solid 45-run knock. These breakthroughs took Ngarava’s overall tally to 83 T20I wickets, pushing him past all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who now sits second with 81 scalps.

Ngarava’s rise has been a testament to his consistency and ability to strike at key moments. His left-arm angle and pace variation have made him a mainstay of Zimbabwe’s bowling attack in the shortest format.
The match also witnessed a notable feat from the South African camp, where Lungi Ngidi equaled Dale Steyn’s record for most T20I wickets for the Proteas. Ngidi bowled an economical spell, conceding only 15 runs in his four overs and claiming one wicket. His breakthrough came in unusual fashion—Wessly Madhevere accidentally hit his own stumps while trying to play from deep in the crease, handing Ngidi his 64th T20I wicket.
With this performance, Ngidi joined Steyn in third place on South Africa’s all-time T20I wicket-takers list. Steyn reached the mark in 47 matches, while Ngidi achieved it in just 44 games. Ahead of both stand Tabraiz Shamsi, who leads with 89 wickets in 70 matches, followed by Kagiso Rabada with 71 from 65 games.
