PKR Depreciates Sharply vs USD, Steady Against CAD and AUD on July 16, 2025

The Pakistani rupee weakened further against the US dollar, with the current interbank rate at 284.74 PKR per USD—hovering near its six‑month high. After touching 285.75 on July 14, the USD‑PKR rate retreated modestly. Sustained dollar strength globally and persistent local inflation are key drivers of this ongoing depreciation.
Financial analysts observe that the State Bank of Pakistan’s cautious monetary policy, coupled with limited foreign exchange reserves, is likely to keep downward pressure on the rupee. “Unless external inflows—like remittances or IMF support—increase significantly, the PKR is likely to remain under stress near 280–290 levels through Q3,” noted a Karachi-based forex expert.

Canadian Dollar to PKR Rate Holds Ground on July 16, 2025
The Canadian dollar is trading steadily at 207.58 PKR. Over the past week, rates fluctuated narrowly between 207.35 and 208.84, reflecting cross-border trade stability and modest movement in global commodity prices.
Market observers say that with Canada’s commodity exports stable and Pakistan’s demand tapering, the CAD‑PKR pair is expected to remain range‑bound at 207–209. Any sharp move in oil prices or a sudden change in global risk sentiment could, however, shift the balance.
AUD to PKR Edges Lower on July 16, 2025 Amid Forex Volatility
The Australian dollar is exchanging at approximately 185.80 PKR, sliding slightly from early July highs near 187.65–187.95. This slowdown follows a recent rebound driven by Australia’s higher commodity prices.
According to a forex strategist in Lahore: “The slight AUD depreciation reflects global risk-off sentiment and a stronger US dollar. Unless Australia posts stronger trade data or Pakistan’s central bank intervenes, this pair will likely stabilise between 185–188 in the near term.”
Expert analysis across major currency pairs suggests that the PKR will continue to face pressure against USD, while its performance versus the CAD and AUD remains comparatively stable. Future trends will hinge on external inflows, commodity prices, and central bank actions both at home and abroad.
