Ireland’s Curtis Campher Makes Cricket History with Five Wickets in Five Balls

Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher created a historic moment in professional cricket by becoming the first male player to take five wickets in five consecutive deliveries. The remarkable feat occurred during a domestic Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy match between Munster Reds and North-West Warriors in Dublin on Thursday.
Campher’s extraordinary spell began at the end of the 12th over when he bowled Jared Wilson and trapped Graham Hume lbw in successive balls. After a short break, he returned in the 14th over and completed a hat-trick by dismissing Andy McBrine. He then continued the streak by taking the wickets of Robbie Millar and Josh Wilson, completing a five-ball sequence that stunned everyone.

Speaking after the game, Campher admitted he didn’t fully grasp the significance of what was unfolding. “I wasn’t really sure what was happening. I just kind of stuck to my guns and kept it real simple, and luckily it kind of went off,” he told Cricket Ireland.
Munster Reds comfortably won the match by a massive margin of 100 runs, but it was Campher’s spell that stole the spotlight and etched his name into the record books.
Before Campher, Zimbabwean women’s cricketer Kelis Ndhlovu had achieved a similar milestone. She became the first player overall to claim five wickets in five balls during a domestic Under-19 T20 match against Eagles Women in 2024.
